Geographic objects with indeterminate boundaries and their visualization

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dosavadním poznáním problematiky prostorově nejasných hranic a jejich kartografickou vizualizací. Praktická část je zaměřena na nejasné hranice funkčních regionů. Současné konvenční způsoby kartografického zpracování hranic geografických jevů potlačují jejich strukturu a charakter prostorové změny zkoumané charakteristiky. Změna současné koncepce je důležitá pro hlubší pochopení distribuce studovaných jevů v prostoru. Klíčová literatura zabývající se problematikou hranic je diskutována jak z pohledu koncepce geografických modelů, tak vizualizace. V praktické části je použita metodika fuzzifikace funkčních regionů. Konvenční způsoby vizualizace nezobrazují stěžejní prvky geografických jevů v oblasti hranice. Metody zmiňované v této práci mohou být aplikovány i v dalších geografických výzkumech, kde je otázka hranic stěžejní. Výsledkem práce je ověření možností vizualizace dat takovým způsobem, aby byla vzata v úvahu i nejasnost hranic.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with current knowledge of spatially indeterminate borders and their cartographic visualization. The practical part focuses on indeterminate borders of functional region. Present conventional ways of cartographical processing of the boundaries of geographical phenomena supresses their structure and the nature of spatial change of the investigated characteristic. The change in current conception is important for deeper understanding of examined phenomena distribution in space. The key literature dealing with issues of borders is discussed form the perspective of both concept of geographical models and visualization. In the practical part method of fuzzification of functional regions is used. Conventional ways of visualization do not display main elements of geographical phenomena in border regions. The methods mentioned in this thesis could be also applied in other geographical research, where the issue of border is crucial. The result of this thesis is verification that data could be visualize in a way that also takes in mind inderetminate borders.
