Improving the financial literacy of people with hearing impairment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá finanční gramotností osob se sluchovým postižením, potřebou zvyšování její dosavadní úrovně a zjišťováním zájmu o toto téma u osob pracující v oblasti financí. Cílem diplomové práce je analýza úrovně finanční gramotnosti osob se sluchovým postižením a zároveň i analýza povědomí finančních poradců o sluchovém postižení a jejich zkušeností a postojů k dané problematice. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol. První kapitola pojednává o osobách se sluchovým postižením, o jejich osobnosti, o možnostech vzdělávání a pracovního uplatnění a jejich vztahu s osobami slyšícími. V druhé kapitole jsou popsány komunikační systémy, které osoby se sluchovým postižením využívají, jejich specifika i pravidla, která jsou potřeba při komunikaci dodržovat. Třetí kapitola se zabývá finanční gramotností obecně, vysvětluje základní finanční pojmy a finanční produkty a také osvětluje problematiku finančního poradenství jako takového. Závěrečná, čtvrtá kapitola je pak kapitolou empirickou, která popisuje průběh a výsledky výzkumného šetření na téma zvyšování finanční gramotnosti osob se sluchovým postižením. V této kapitole je popsán i praktický výstup práce - projekt Finance v malíčku, který se postupně realizuje a bude poskytovat podporu a pomoc v oblasti zvyšování finanční gramotnosti osob se sluchovým postižením a rozšiřováním znalostí z oblasti sluchového postižení mezi finančními poradci tak, aby bylo docíleno plnohodnotné komunikace a spolupráce mezi oběma stranami.

Abstract:

The thesis addresses the financial literacy of people with hearing impairment, need to increase it, and interest of this topic among people working in the financial field. The aim of this thesis is analysis of the financial literacy level among people with hearing impairment as well as analysis of the awareness of hearing impairment among financial advisors and their experience and attitudes towards this issue. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with people with hearing impairment, their personality, education possibilities and ability to work, and their relationship with people with no hearing disability. The second chapter describes the communication systems that people with hearing impairment use, their specifics and rules needed during conversation. The third chapter deals with financial literacy in general, explains the basic financial terminology and financial products, and sheds light on financial advisory as such. The final fourth chapter is an empirical chapter, which describes the process and results of the research on the topic of this thesis – increasing financial literacy of people with hearing impairment. This chapter also includes the practical result of the thesis – “Finance v malicku” project, which is gradually being implemented. It will provide support and help with increasing financial literacy among people with hearing impairment and knowledge of this issue among financial advisors in order to assure adequate communication between both sides.
