Comparison of the quality of macroeconomic forecasts of Czech Ministry of Finance with VAR models

Abstract:

The subject of the Master’s thesis "Comparison of the Quality of Macroeconomic Forecasts of Czech Ministry of Finance with VAR Models" is a comparison of Ministry of Finance forecasts with the autor’s benchmark models. This comparison is made using RMSE, MSE and MAE statistics. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part describes benchmark models and statistics used. The practical part analyzes the accuracy of the predictions of the Ministry of Finance and the benchmark models VAR, ARIMA and the random walk model using selected statistics.

Abstract:

Predmetom záverečnej práce „Porovnanie kvality makroekonomických predikcií Ministerstva financií Českej republiky s VAR modelmi“ je porovnanie predikcií MFČR s vlastnými benchmark modelmi. Toto porovnanie je vytvorené pomocou štatistík RMSE, MSE a MAE. Práca je rozdelená na teoretickú a praktickú časť. V teoretickej časti sú predstavené benchmark modely a použité štatistiky. V praktickej časti je analyzovaná presnosť predikcií Ministerstva financií a benchmark modelov VAR, ARIMA a modelu náhodnej prechádzky pomocou zvolených štatistík.
