Viennese painting and architecture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries with an emphasis on art nouveau and symbolism

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce s názvem "Vídeňské malířství a architektura na přelomu 19. a 20. století s důrazem na secesi a symbolismus" se bude zabývat převážně secesním a symbolistickým výtvarným uměním. Zprvu bude pojednáno o Vídni na přelomu století, která byla jedním z uměleckých center tehdejšího světa. Naváže kapitola o symbolismu a secesi, kde bude pojednáno o principech, cílech a formách těchto uměleckých proudů. Poté budou představeni nejvýznamnější malíři a architekti, krátce bude pojednáno o jejich životě a díle a následně budou rozebrána jejich nejvýznamnější díla. Na konkrétních případech budou demonstrovány metody těchto umělců, motivy jejich prací a cíle, které jimi sledovali. Práci bude uzavírat kapitola, která shrne přínos secesního a symbolistického hnutí a jejich význam pro dějiny výtvarného umění.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis entitled "Viennese Painting and Architecture at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries with the Emphasis on Art Nouveau and Symbolism" will deal mainly with Art Nouveau and Symbolic Art. At first it will be discussed about Vienna at the turn of the century, which was one of the art centers of the world. He will guide the chapter on symbolism and art nouveau, where he will discuss the principles, goals and forms of these art streams. After that, the most important painters and architects will be introduced, their life and work will be briefly discussed, and their most important works will be analyzed. In concrete cases, the methods of these artists, the motives of their work, and the goals they were pursuing will be demonstrated. The work will conclude with a chapter summarizing the contribution of the Art Nouveau and Symbolist movements and their significance for the history of the fine arts.
