A Quantitative Analysis of Daniel Landa's Musical Songs

Abstract:

Diplomová práce analyzuje muzikálové písně Daniela Landy prostřednictvím výzkumných metod kvantitativní lingvistiky. Korpus zkoumaných děl zahrnuje muzikály Krysař, Tajemství, Touha a rockovou operu Klíč králů. V písních se zaměřuji na výzkum následujících stylometrických indexů a oblastí: průměrná délka slova (ATL), aktivita (Q), vzdálenost sloves (VD), nominalita, tematická koncentrace (TC), sekundární tematická koncentrace (STC), slovní bohatství (MATTR) a klíčová slova (keywords). Výsledky výzkumu jsou interpretovány na vybraných písňových úryvcích. Nosnou myšlenkou práce je především nalezení rozdílností nebo společných rysů v Landově muzikálové tvorbě. Interpretace se opírají o důležité informace z autorova života, které se promítají do jeho tvorby; přítomna je i kapitola se stručným obsahem zkoumaných děl a jejich dobovou kritikou. V závěru práce se zabývám didaktickým potenciálem zjištěných poznatků a jejich začleněním do moderní výuky.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis analyses Daniel Landa's musical songs through research methods of quantitative linguistics. The corpus of the examined works includes the musicals of Krysař, Tajemství, Touha, and the rock opera Klíč králů. In the songs, I research the following stylometric indices and areas: average token length (ATL), activity (Q), verb distance (VD), nominality, thematic concentration (TC), secondary thematic concentration (STC), vocabulary richness (MATTR), and keywords. The results of the research are interpreted on selected lyrics excerpts. The main goal of the thesis is to find differences or common features in Landa's musical works. The interpretations rely on important aspects of the author's life, which are reflected in his work; there is also a chapter briefly summarizing the plots of the examined works and their critical receptions. At the end of the thesis, I deal with the didactic potential of the research outcome and its incorporation into modern teaching.
