Pod překladem operních libreta se obvykle rozumí přeložení textu již existující opery za účelem ji přiblížit cizojazyčnému publiku. Tato bakalářská práce se však zaměřuje na vznik a rozbor libret k operám "Dalibor" a "Libuše", která původně v němčině napsal Josef Wenzig (1807 – 1876) a ještě před zhudebněním na přání skladatele Bedřicha Smetany (1824 – 1884) přeložil Ervín Špindler (1843 – 1918).
