Testacean assemblages of bog and fen habitats: species composition, ecology and their applications

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá krytenkami, jež jsou významným prvkem ekosystému rašelinných biotopů. Ekologii a možnostem využití těchto organizmů se věnuje úvodní rešeršní část, praktická část je zaměřená na mikrodistribuci krytenek na minerálně bohatém rašeliništi v Moravskoslezských Beskydech. Cílem této práce bylo analyzovat změny druhového složení a diverzity krytenek v rámci velmi malé prostorové škály a zjistit, zda je distribuce druhů závislá nebo nezávislá na prostorové heterogenitě podmínek na lokalitě. Odběr vzorků proběhl v roce 2010, zvolená metodika měla za cíl zachytit co nejvyšší heterogenitu podmínek, která se projevovala zejména střídáním kalcitolerantních rašeliníků a hnědých mechů. Bylo odebráno celkem 20 vzorků, a na místě odebraných mechorostů byly změřeny abiotické faktory prostředí (redoxní potenciál, pH, teplota vody a konduktivita). Vlhkost v místě odběru byla ohodnocena na škále od jedné do čtyř a determinováno bylo druhové složení mechorostů ve vzorcích. Vliv těchto faktorů na změny v druhovém složení krytenek byl testován pomocí mnohorozměrných statistických metod v programu R. Na lokalitě bylo nalezeno 45 taxonů krytenek a výsledky analýz potvrdily, že druhové složení krytenek odráží prostorovou heterogenitu mechorostů, kdy je možné odlišit společenstva rašeliníků a hnědých mechů. Se složením mechorostů byl silně korelován chemismus podzemní vody. Tento se projevil jako nejvýznamnější faktor pro formování společenstev krytenek, naopak gradient vlhkosti se v tomto případě neprokázal jako signifikantní. S rostoucími hodnotami pH rovněž stoupala druhová bohatost krytenek směrem ke vzorkům s převahou hnědých mechů. Získané poznatky by nadále měly být využity pro úpravu metodiky vzorkování na tomto typu lokalit, jež by pro zachycení většiny druhového spektra krytenek měla respektovat prostorovou heterogenitu prostředí.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with testate amoebae in mire habitats. The introduction summarizes the knowledge on ecology of these organisms and possibilities of their application in paleoecology. The research part of the thesis focuses on a fine-scale distribution of testaceans within a groundwater-fed rich fen. The aim of this study was to analyse whether the species composition of testate amoebae is dependent on the environmental heterogeneity within the study site. The samples were collected in 2010 and the sampling method was designed to cover all possible microhabitats formed by highly diversified moss layer, which consisted of patches with prevailing calcitolerant Sphagnum species or brown mosses. In total 20 samples were collected. Several environmental parameters were measured at each sampling plot, moisture conditions were only estimated based on a four-grade scale, and the composition of moss samples was determined. Effect of all these variables on the species composition of testate amoebae was explored using an indirect and direct ordination analyses. All statistics were performed using the R software. In the sampled sites, 45 testate amoebae taxa were found. The results confirmed that the species composition of testate amoebae significantly reflected the fine-scale heterogeneity of the moss layer. Testacean assemblages inhabiting Sphanum species and brown moss species dominated patches can be clearly distinguished. Moss samples composition was strongly correlated with the groundwater chemistry, which has acted as the strongest factor for structuring the species composition of testate amoebae communities. Likewise, the species richness increased with the increasing pH values, with more species observed in the samples with higher proportion of brow mosses. By contrast, the effect of moisture was not significant in this study. According to the results of this study, environmental heterogeneity of fen habitats should be taken into account when samples for testate amoebae analysis are collected. Applied methods should consider the whole range of microhabitats at the sampling site, to capture as many species present at the site as possible.
