Anotace:

The diploma thesis “Songs and Music in Teaching English to Young Learners with Usage of Chit Chat 2“ proffers a methodical material with suggestions of how to use songs and music in teaching English to pupils in the 4th class at primary school. The theoretical part deals with the issue of teaching English to young learners with regard to Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education and the educational content given by Cambridge English Young Learners: Young Learners English Tests. Another chapter offers guidance on presenting new songs in a class and a summary of how a teacher may improve pupils’ language skills via songs. There are also introduced types of songs and rhymes usable for teaching English to young learners. An important part of the thesis is created by the description of various pre-listening, while-listening and post-listening activities whose subjects are songs and music. The practical part presents nineteen lesson plans focused on English songs, one lesson plan dealing with a poem, and two lesson plans in which classical music is the centrepiece. The songs and music have been chosen to accompany curriculum given by Chit Chat 2. In these lessons, pupils acquire new knowledge and develop their language skills via songs and music. Five blocks of lessons have been verified in the fourth class at primary school in Dolní Rožínka. Evaluations of implementations of these lessons are enclosed.
