The evaluation of the effects of training in virtual reality environment on non-virtual table tennis training

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zjistit, zda dochází k transferu sportovních dovedností získaných v prostředí imerzivní virtuální reality (dále VR) do výkonů v reálném sportu, a to na příkladu konkrétních stolně tenisových dovedností, které byly posuzovány pomocí speciální testové baterie. Dalším cílem je prozkoumat souvislost motorické docility s trénovatelností v prostředí VR a vliv tréninku ve VR na speciální stolně-tenisovou pohybovou agilitu. Samotný VR trénink probíhal na zařízení Oculus GO ve hře Racket Fury. V rámci výzkumu byly stanoveny čtyři hypotézy, které byly testovány pomocí srovnávacího výzkumu na vzorku 38 probandů. Výsledky naznačují, že trénink ve virtuální realitě může být účinným nástrojem pro zlepšení motorických dovedností ve stolním tenise. Byla potvrzena také závislost mezi motorickou docilitou a dovednostmi ve stolním tenise, a to skrze celkové skóre testové baterie. Kromě toho byla potvrzena závislost mezi motorickou docilitou a pohybovou agilitou. Výsledky této práce implikují, že trénink ve virtuální realitě může být efektivním doplňkem k tradičnímu tréninku stolního tenisu. Výzkum přináší nové poznatky do oblasti tréninku stolního tenisu a může být využit k vylepšení tréninkových programů pro sportovce a trenéry.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to find out whether there is a transfer of sports skills acquired in an immersive virtual reality environment (hereafter VR) to performances in real sports, using the example of specific table tennis skills that were assessed using a special test battery. Another goal is to investigate the connection of motive docility with trainability in a VR environment and the effect of training in VR on special table tennis movement agility. The VR training itself took place on the Oculus GO device in the game Racket Fury. As part of the research, four hypotheses were established, which were tested using comparative research on a sample of 38 probands. The results suggest that virtual reality training can be an effective tool for improving motive skills in table tennis. The dependence between motive docility and table tennis skills was also confirmed, through the total score of the test battery. In addition, the dependence between motor docility and movement agility was confirmed. The results of this work imply that virtual reality training can be an effective supplement to traditional table tennis training. The research brings new knowledge to the field of table tennis training and can be used to improve training programs for athletes and coaches.
