The Greek community in Krnov and Brno from the Greek exodus in 1948 to the present

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na řecké komunity žijící na území České republiky ve městech Krnov a Brno. Hlavním cílem práce bylo vytvořit stručný přehled poznatků o životě řeckých emigrantů od jejich příchodu do tehdejšího Československa až po současnost. Přiblížit důsledky řecké občanské války a nutnost emigrace Řeků do lidově demokratických států a následný příchod do Československa. Tato práce je založena na přímém kontaktu s řeckými přistěhovalci, kteří popisovali průběh emigrace, začleňování do české společnosti, repatriaci, působení Řeckých obcí v Krnově a Brně a případné rozdíly v těchto komunitách. Na základě zjištěných informací od respondentů bylo zjištěno, že se proces emigrace lišil průběhem cestování, usídlení do různých dětských domovů a umístění do daných lokalit. Z výpovědí vyplývá, že je město Krnov jedním z nejdůležitějších měst pro řeckou národnostní menšinu České republice.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on Greek communities living in the area of the Czech Republic in Krnov and Brno. The main aim of the thesis was to create a concise overview of the findings describing the life of Greek emigrants from their arrival in the then Czechoslovakia up to the present day, to give an idea of the consequences of the Greek Civil War and the necessity of the Greek emigration to people’s democratic states and the subsequent arrival in Czechoslovakia. This thesis is based on the first-hand contact with Greek emigrants, who described the course of emigration, integration into the Czech society, repatriation, activities of the Greek communities in Krnov and Brno and possible differences among the communities. On the grounds of the ascertained information from respondents it was found out that the process of emigration differed in the way of travelling, in the settlement in different children’s homes and in the placement in the given localities. The evidence shows that Krnov is one of the most important towns for the Greek national minority in the Czech Republic.
