Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na tenzorové medicínské zobrazovací metody vyššího řádu (HOT) s využitím Riemannovy-Finslerovy geometrie. Tento přístup je široce používán v biomedicínském výzkumu a opírá se o difúzní profily uvnitř voxelů. Informace o profilu difúze je uložena v tenzoru difúze (D). V případě tenzorů druhého řádu (DTI) je geometrie podkladových vláken zkoumána pomocí inverze $D^{-1}$ difúzního tenzoru; je ale náročné určit inverzní hodnotu v případě HOT. Abychom odhalili architekturu nervových vláken, navrhujeme novou metodu inverzní difúze HOT, která poskytuje lepší aproximaci difuzivity. Přístup vláknové traktografie se používá k rekonstrukci architektury mozkové tkáně; v případě architektury křížení vláken je to složité. Navrhujeme dva různé způsoby, jak to zvládnout. Zpočátku používáme Riemannovský přístup a provádíme nelineární optimalizaci rozložení tenzoru 4. řádu na více tenzorů 2. řádu při zachování jejich symetrické pozitivně definitní (SPD) vlastnosti. Poté je tento rozklad použit pro sledování vláken v heterogenních a vysoce zakřivených strukturách. Tato metoda funguje dobře, ale stále není dobrá pro křížení vláken pod malým úhlem. Abychom to zvládli lépe, používáme Finslerovu geometrii. Ve Finslerovském přístupu funguje vláknová traktografie dobře ve složitějších strukturách s vysokým zakřivením a malými kříženími úhlu, a to i za přítomnosti hluku. Segmentace je dalším důležitým aspektem analýzy obrazu v medicíně a hraje zásadní roli v diagnostice. Na základě traktografie zavádíme novou metodu segmentace. Detekovaná vlákna vkládáme jako počáteční polohu obrysových ploch pro segmentaci obrazu pomocí dříve vypracované metody aktivního obrysu. Tento přístup segmentaci zrychluje a umožňuje nám rozlišit jednotlivé objekty i ve složitých strukturách. Dále jsme představili dva nové deskriptory; Finslerovu zlomkovou anizotropii (FFA) založenou na Finslerově geometrii a FA4 založenou na Riemannovské geometrii, které by mohly v budoucnu sloužit jako užitečné biomarkery. Tyto deskriptory jsou užitečné při klasifikaci voxelů dle počtu v nich obsažených vláken s odlišnou orientací, což odráží anizotropii difúze vody.

Abstract:

This work focuses on three-dimensional Higher order tensor (HOT)image analysis using the Riemann-Finsler geometry framework. This approach is widely used in biomedical research and depends on the diffusion profiles inside the voxels. The diffusion profile information is stored in the diffusion tensor (D). In the case of second-order tensors (DTI), the geometry of the underlying fibers is revealed using the inverse $D^{−1}$ of the diffusion tensor; it is challenging to compute the inverse in the HOT case. To reveal the architecture of neural fibers, we suggest a novel method for inverting diffusion HOT which gives a better approximation of diffusivity. The fiber tractography approach is used to reconstruct the architecture of the brain tissue; it is complex in the case of crossing fiber architecture. We suggest two different ways to handle it. Initially, we use the Riemann framework, and a non-linear optimization is performed to decompose a 4th-order tensor into multiple 2nd-order tensors keeping their symmetric positive definite (SPD) property. Then, this decomposition is used for fiber tracking in heterogeneous and high-curvature structures. This method works well, but it is still not good for small-angle fiber crossing. To handle it in a more proper way, we use Finsler geometry. Under the Finsler setting, the fiber tractography approach works well in more complex structures with high curvatures and small angle crossings, even in the presence of noise. Segmentation is another important aspect of medical image analysis and plays a vital role in diagnostics. Based on tractography, we introduce a new segmentation method. We feed the detected fibers as the initial position of the contour surfaces to segment the image using the relevant active contour method. This feature makes it faster and allows us to distinguish individual objects even in complex structures. Furthermore, we introduced two novel descriptors; Finsler fractional anisotropy (FFA) based on Finsler geometry and FA4 based on the Riemann framework, which might serve as useful biomarkers in the future. These descriptors are helpful in classifying the voxels on the basis of the number of underlying fibers with distinct orientations, which describe the anisotropy of water diffusion.
