Social Media and their Impact on Students of Primary Education

Abstract:

Diplomová práce má teoreticko-empirický charakter. Cílem práce je zjistit povědomí učitelů 1. stupně základních škol o užívání sociálních sítí žáky primárního vzdělávání a jejich názory na pozitiva i úskalí sociálních sítí. Teoretická část práce vymezuje vztah žáků primárního vzdělávání k sociálním sítím a důsledky spojené s jejich užíváním. Empirická část práce zahrnuje stanovené cíle výzkumu, výzkumné otázky, hypotézy a závěry výzkumu. Výzkum byl realizován prostřednictvím dotazníku určeného pro učitele 1. stupně základní školy, jež vyplnilo 95 respondentů. Výzkumná zjištění ukazují, zda se učitelé 1. stupně základní školy zajímají o užívání sociálních sítí žáky mladšího školního věku, zda vnímají pozitiva i negativa sociálních sítí a zda mají povědomí o prevenci rizikového chování žáků na internetu. Bylo zjištěno, že žáci mladšího školního věku jsou na sociálních sítích aktivní a mnohdy z pohledu dotazovaných učitelů sociální sítě nadužívají. Z toho vyplynula možná úskalí, mezi které učitelé řadili únavu žáků, roztěkanost nebo emoční nestálost. Pro řešení problémů spojených s online světem většina učitelů primárního vzdělávání využívá intervence metodika prevence či podporují třídní účast na preventivních programech. Z výzkumu je dále patrné, že učitelé vnímají sociální sítě pozitivně z jednoho hlavního hlediska. A to z hlediska rozvoje digitální kompetence žáků, jež souvisí s užíváním digitálních technologií.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis has a theoretical-empirical character. The aim of the thesis is to find out the awareness of primary school teachers about the use of social networks by primary school students and their opinions about the positives and pitfalls of social networks. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the relationship of primary education students to social networks and the consequences associated with their use. The empirical part of the thesis includes the stated research objectives, research questions, hypotheses and research conclusions. The research was carried out through a questionnaire designed for primary school teachers of the first grade, which was completed by 95 respondents. The research findings show whether primary school teachers of Grade 1 are interested in the use of social networking sites by students of younger school age, whether they perceive the positives and negatives of social networking sites, and whether they have an awareness of preventing risky behaviour of students on the Internet. It was found that pupils of younger school age are active on social networks and often overuse social networks from the perspective of the teachers interviewed. This led to possible pitfalls, among which teachers identified pupil fatigue, distractibility or emotional instability. To address the problems associated with the online world, most primary teachers use the intervention of a prevention methodologist or encourage class participation in prevention programmes. The research also shows that teachers perceive social networks positively from one main perspective. This is in terms of the development of pupils' digital competence related to the use of digital technologies.
