Software for teaching musical harmony

Abstract:

The goal of this diploma thesis is to do research about algorithmic solvability of musical harmony problems and use results of that research to make appropriate software, which will help students learning harmony. After explaining some basic terms of musical theory there follows historic summary of European harmony and then its rules. Further, the work contains explanation about algorithmic solvability of classical harmony problems and then description of one implemented approach to it. At the end of this work, there are other possible uses of it, namely ability to help musical composers, and there is also stated its further possible growth.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je objasniť algoritmickú riešiteľnosť problémov klasickej harmónie a tieto výsledky potom využiť pri vytvorení programu, ktorý pomôže študentom pri osvojení harmónie. Po objasnení základných potrebných pojmov z hudobnej teórie nasleduje prehľad histórie európskej harmónie a potom pravidlá klasickej harmónie. Práca ďalej obsahuje možnosti algoritmickej riešiteľnosti harmonických problémov a popis jednej konkrétnej implementácie. V závere sú uvedené ďalšie možné využitia tejto práce, z ktorých veľmi zásadná je pomoc pri skladaní hudby, a je uvedený aj ďalší možný jej rozvoj.
