Solitude and non-communication in The Tunnel by Ernesto Sábato

Abstract:

This thesis examines the work of Argentine writer Ernesto Sábato “The Tunnel”. The aim is to find different forms that reflect the elements of solitude and non-communication and thus underline the existential character of the novel. Much of the work is dedicated to the protagonist Juan Pablo Castel, who represents the prototype of a lonely and unhappy hero. Other chapters are devoted to the analysis of the means and manner of communication of main characters and search for existential elements in symbols.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá dílo argentinského spisovatele Ernesta Sábata „Tunel“. Cílem práce je najít různé formy, ve kterých se odráží prvky samoty a nekomunikace a podtrhnout tak existenciální charakter románu. Velká část práce je věnována protagonistovi Juanu Pablovi Castelovi, který představuje prototyp osamělého a nešťastného hrdiny. Další kapitoly jsou věnovány rozboru prostředků a způsobu komunikace primárních postav a hledání existenciálních prvků v symbolech.
