Public Libraries as Municipal Community Centres with a Respect to Community Education

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Veřejné knihovny jako komunitní centra obcí s přihlédnutím ke komunitnímu vzdělávání“ pojednává o problematice vztahů mezi institucemi, které se v České republice zabývají pořádáním komunitních aktivit, konkrétně mezi komunitními knihovnami a komunitními školami. Teoretická část obsahuje přehled definic některých důležitých pojmů, z více úhlů je nazírán zejména pojem „komunita“. Následuje přehled historie komunitního vzdělávání a komunitního knihovnictví v ČR, přičemž obojí se datuje až od 90. let minulého století. Cílem práce je na základě získaných poznatků odhalit příčiny nespolupráce mezi komunitními knihovnami a komunitními školami. K tomu slouží excerpce literatury a studium webových stránek zmíněných institucí, pohledem do reality je kvalitativní výzkum provedený se vzorkem čítajícím tři zástupce z knihoven, tři ze základních škol. Výsledky výzkumu potvrzují závěry teoretické části: spolupráce mezi výše zmíněnými institucemi jednoznačně není dostatečná, přestože se jí žádná ze stran nebrání a spolupráci naopak vítá. Závěr obsahuje návrh řešení této situace, jež spočívá v tom, že některá ze stran převezme iniciativu a dojde ke zprostředkování prvních kontaktů, které utvoří základ pro další spolupráci.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis called „Public libraries as municipal community centres with a respect to community education“ deals with questions of relationships between institutions which are engaged in arranging of community activities in the Czech Republic, concretely relationships between community libraries and community schools. The theoretical part contains a list of definitions of some important terms, whereas I mainly looked on the term “community” from several points of view. Then an outline of history of community education and community library science in the Czech Republic follows, where everything is dated only since nineties of the last century. The aim of the work is to show reasons of no cooperation between community libraries and community schools on the basis of gained findings. For that purpose I used excerption of literature and study of web sites of these institutions, for the look to the reality I used qualitative research made on an example of three representatives of libraries and three representatives of basic schools. Results of the research testify to hypotheses of the theoretical part: the cooperation between these institutions is undoubtedly not satisfactory, although both the sides are not against such cooperation and would welcome it. The conclusion offers a concept of resolution of this situation that one of the sides will take the initiation to arrange the first contact and lay the base for further cooperation.
