Protein p73 je homologem nádorového supresoru p53. Gen pro tento protein je lokalizován v oblasti 1p36, která u řady nádorů podléhá ztrátě heterozygosity. Biologická úloha p73 je zčásti podobná jako u p53, p73 je však zapojen i do dalších signálních drah a může plnit i funkce antagonistické. Abstract:
p73 is a member of the p53 family. TP73 is localized at chromosome 1p36, a region that is frequently deleted in a variety of human tumours. p73 shows structural and functional homology with the tumor suppressor p53 but there are many p73 protein isoforms with both pro- and antiapoptotic functions.
