Abstract:

Práce se zabývá Společností národů a její schopností řešit krize. Analýza se opírá o detailní rozbor nástrojů řešení krizí daných Úmluvou o Společnosti národů, zároveň bere v potaz související smlouvy a dokumenty, kontext politiky a mezinárodních vztahů. Praktické použití je zkoumáno na konfliktech v Mandžusku a Etiopii, jež byly rozhodující zkouškou Společnosti národů a dochází k závěru, že možnosti Společnosti národů řešit konflikty byly značně omezené. Hlavní faktory, které na to měly vliv byly: nastavení Úmluvy o Společnosti národů jako kompromisního dokumentu, nedosažení zamýšlené univerzálnosti organizace a neochota velmocí v Radě Společnosti národů zasahovat ve prospěch malých zemí proti ostatním velmocím

Abstract:

This diploma paper deals with the League of Nations and its ability to settle crises. Analysis is based on detailed study of crisis resolution instruments provided by the Covenant of the League of Nations and at the same time takes into account related treaties and documents, policy and international relations context. Practical application is examined upon conflicts in Manchuria and Ethiopia, which were the crucial test of the League of Nations and reaches a conclusion, that the League of Nations' potency to solve conflicts was substantially limited. The main factors which exerted influence thereupon were: setting of the Covenant of the League of Nations as a compromise document, not achieving of the conceived universality of the organisation and reluctance of Great Powers in the Council of the League of Nations to intervene on behalf of small countries against other Great Powers
