The Molotov - Ribbentrop Pact: A Non-zero-sum game

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá rozborem Paktu Molotov - Ribbentrop z pohledu teorie her. V rámci spojení dějin mezinárodních vztahů a základů teorií her se snaží potvrdit hypotézu, že se v případě sjednaného Paktu jednalo o hru s nenulovým součtem.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the Molotov – Ribbentrop Pact, also formally known as the Treaty of Non-aggression between Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Its main objective is to analyse the Pact from the perspective of game theories, i.e. to use the principles of basic game theories, such as zero sum game and non zero sum game prove that the negotiation between Hitler and Stalin as the players representing both contracting parties contained in practice similar or the same elements as is presented theoretically. Subsequently, it should be possible to conclude whether the Pact could be regarded as a zero sum game or a non-zero sum game.
