The Image of the Habsburg dynasty in France under Charles IX.

Abstract:

Cílem práce je přiblížit reflexi habsburského rodu, jež se odrážela na slavnostech, které se konaly na francouzském královském dvoře v době, kdy v Paříži působila Alžběta Habsburská (1570-1574). Text vychází z panegyrických tisků, jejichž prostřednictvím je sledována svatba francouzského krále Karla IX. s habsburskou princeznou a korunovace nové francouzské královny v Saint Denis. Pozornost je věnována i dvěma slavnostním vjezdům - Karla IX. a Alžběty - do Paříže, nebo pohřbu francouzského krále. Použité symboly a alegorie na slav-nostech ukazují, jak francouzská společnost nahlížela na habsburský rod.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to present the reflection of the Habsburg family during festivities that took place at the French royal court. The work focuses on a time period when Elizabeth of Habsburg was active in Paris (1570-1574). The text is based on panegyric prints, through which her wedding to Charles IX., king of France, is observed. Other described ceremonies include the coronation of the new French queen in Saint Denis. Even though, most attention is focused on two royal entries - of both Charles IX. and Elizabeth - to Paris. The last ceremony presented by this work is the funeral of the French king. The symbols and allegories used at these events show how French society viewed the Habsburg dynasty.
