Administrative burden of nurses in acute wards

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Cíl: Předmětem průzkumného šetření bakalářské práce je zmapování administrativní zátěže všeobecných sester na vybraných odděleních akutních lůžek Nemocnice s poliklinikou Karviná-Ráj a pracoviště Orlová. Jedná se o jednotky intenzivní péče těchto oddělení: interního oddělení Orlová a Karviná-Ráj, chirurgie Orlová a Karviná-Ráj, ortopedie Orlová, gynekologie Karviná-Ráj, dětského oddělení Karviná-Ráj, Dlouhodobé intenzivní péče a Dlouhodobé intenzivní ošetřovatelské péče Orlová. Metodika: Sdělení související s administrativní zátěží zaměřená na znalosti všeobecných sester a jejich dovednosti v práci se zavedenou ošetřovatelskou dokumentací byla získána metodou nestandardizovaného dotazníku, uplatněnou u všeobecných sester v praxi. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 80 respondentů z devíti jednotek akutních oddělení Nemocnice s poliklinikou Karviná-Ráj (34 respondentů) a pracoviště Orlová (46 respondentů). Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno od února do dubna 2012. Výsledky: Zpracované výsledky praktické části ukazují, že všeobecné sestry v dané nemocnici pociťují při práci administrativní zátěž. Většina respondentů uvádí jako nejvyšší dosažené vzdělání středoškolské, délku praxe 11?20 let, věk 36?40 let. Z toho vyplývá, že většina všeobecných sester se s metodou ošetřovatelského procesu seznamuje až v praxi. Všeobecné sestry jsou uvědomělé, zvyšují si své znalosti, ale administrativa přitom vyvolává napětí a stres z nedostatku času. Výsledky praktické části jsou vyjádřeny v grafech pomocí relativních četností a v tabulkách pomocí absolutních a relativních četností. Součástí praktické části je také diskuze a doporučení pro praxi. Závěr: Nejdůležitější roli v administrativní zátěži všeobecných sester hrají znalosti ošetřovatelského procesu. Dodržování jeho vedení podléhá platné legislativě, umožňuje vyhledávat pacientovy potřeby, zajišťuje kontinuitu péče. Dodržování zdravotnické dokumentace chrání jak zdravotnický personál, tak také pacienta.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Target: The survey of the thesis aims at analyzing administrative work of nurses in selected wards in Karviná-Ráj Hospital & Policlinic and in the hospital in Orlová. The survey deals with the intensive care units of the following wards: the Ward of the Internal Medicine in Orlová and Karviná, the Surgical Ward in Orlová and Karviná, the Ortopaedic Ward in Orlová, the Gynaecological Ward in Karviná-Ráj, the Paediatric Ward in Karviná-Ráj, the Long-Term Acute Care Unit and the Long-Term Intensive Nursing Care Unit in Orlová. Methods: Non-standard questionnaire was used for collecting data which concerns administrative work of nurses, nurses? skills applied in dealing with medical records. This questionnaire was submitted to 80 respondents representing nine acute care wards in Hospital & Policlinic in Karviná-Ráj (34 respondents) and in hospital in Orlová (46 respondents). The questionnaire survey was being carried out from February to April 2012. Results: Analyzed results show that nurses have to cope with the administrative burden at their work. The majority of respondents state the secondary education as their highest qualification reached, the period of practice 11?20 years, the age 36?40. This information shows that the majority of nurses get acquainted with the method of nursing treatment as late as during their work. Nurses are responsible, broaden their knowledge, however, this is the administrative work that brings about much stress and fear of a lack of time to finish work. The results are illustrated in the form of graphs showing relative frequency and charts showing absolute and relative frequency. Conclusion: Nurses? knowledge of nursing treatment process plays the most important role when coping with the administrative burden. Carrying out the appropriate nursing treatment is subject to the valid legislation. The process enables to find out patients? needs and ensures the continuity of the medical care. Due to obeying regulations concerning medical records both the staff and patients are protected.
