The redistributive effects of quantitative easing

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá jednu z forem nekonvenční měnové politiky, kvantitativní uvolňování, která byla mnoha významnými centrálními bankami zavedena po vyčerpání rozsahu konvenčních nástrojů ve smyslu uvolňování měnových podmínek. Hlavním zaměřením jsou redistribuční efekty kvantitativního uvolňování, čemuž ale předchází vysvětlení redistribučních dopadů měnové politiky obecně, jelikož tyto dva pojmy nejsou často spojovány. Práce zasazuje nástroj kvantitativního uvolňování do kontextu měnové politiky s důrazem na transmisní mechanismy a na tomto základě potom vysvětluje jednotlivé kanály redistribuce. Ty jsou následně analyzovány na japonské ekonomice s důrazem na přesun příjmů a bohatství mezi domácnostmi.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on quantitative easing as a form of unconventional monetary policy, which has been implemented by many worldwide significant central banks after the conventional monetary policy instruments failed to achieve the desire effects. The main emphasis of the thesis is given on the redistributive effects of quantitative easing. Because of the not very known connection of monetary policy and redistributive effects, there is a general explanation of it at the beginning. The thesis introduces quantitative easing in the context of the monetary policy and explains the specific redistribution channels on this base. These channels are then analysed in the context of the Japanese economy with the main focus on examinations of the redistribution of wealth and income from some households to others.
