Presentation of Speech Acts reffering to “suggestion, advice, offer” – based on comparing of linguistics manuals and chosen coursebooks.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá jazykovými exponenty vyjadřující „návrh, radu a nabídku“ společně s jejich prezentací napříč všemi úrovněmi ve vybrané řadě učebnic včetně jejich doplňkových materiálů. Teoretická část vymezuje komunikační funkce a jejich kategorizace včetně jejich exponentů dle SERRJ. Analyzované prostředky těchto funkcí jsou pro angličtinu uvedeny podle lingvistických manuálů a SERRJ, pro češtinu podle Grepla a Karlíka. Hodnocení konstrukcí je pomocí mandativních sloves: to suggest, to recommend, to offer a to advise na základě lingvistických manuálů a pomocí nich je analyzováno několik možných větných konstrukcí. Jejich možné výskyty ve vybrané řadě učebnic jsou vodítkem pro některá analyzovaná slovesa podle korpusové analýzy. Praktická část se opírá o popis analyzovaných prostředků na úrovních A2, B1 a B2 dle SERRJ. Detailně jsou zkoumány a popsány výskyty mandativních sloves v úrovních B2 a C1. U nich je uveden popis jednotlivých cvičení a jejich výskyt ve zkoumaných studijních materiálech z hlediska studenta s popisem konstrukcí pro jednotlivá analyzovaná slovesa. Dále je zkoumáno, zda učebnice jasně prezentuje, jak danou strukturu či daný větný vzorec správně použít. Výsledky mohou být užitečné pro učitele angličtiny a lingvisty.

Abstract:

Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with language exponents expressing "suggestion, advice and offer" and their presentation based on all levels of chosen coursebooks Straightforward including all supplementary materials. The theoretical part defines communication functions and their categorization including their exponents according to SERRJ. Analysed resources of these functions are given for English, according to linguistic manuals and SERRJ, for Czech according to Grepl and Karlík. The evaluation of constructions of mandative verbs: to suggest, to recommend, to offer, to advise and several possible analysed sentence constructions are on the basis of linguistic manuals. According to corpus analysis possible occurrences of the constructions in the chosen series of coursebooks are a guide for some analysed verbs. The practical part describes the analysed resources at levels A2, B1 and B2 according to SERRJ. The mandative verbs in levels B2 and C1 are examined and described in detail. It provides a description of individual exercises and their occurrence in the chosen study materials from the point of a student with a description of constructions for the analysed verbs. It is also examined whether the textbook clearly presents the use of the given sentence construction correctly. For these reasons, the results may be useful for teachers and linguistics.
