Využití konceptu percepčního regionu při výzkumu institucionalizace a deinstitucionalizace regionů na příkladu (ne)existence českých zemí

The usage of a perceptual region concept in research of the institutionalization and deinstitutionalization of regions: The case of (non-)existence of the Czech Lands

Abstract:

Přestože je region již od 80. let 20. století chápán jako prostorová struktura, sociální konstrukt a dynamický proces, těžištěm výzkumů v rámci nové regionální geografie je stále vznik regionu. Vývoj regionu není téměř studován, a proto se mu věnuje tato rigorózní práce. V práci je navrženo propojení teorie institucionalizace regionů s koncepty homogenního, funkčního a percepčního regionu. Právě pomocí posledně jmenovaného typu regionu můžeme zkoumat reprodukci regionu, tedy proces, který je součástí institucionalizace i deinstitucionalizace regionů a jenž je nezbytný pro existenci regionu v budoucnu. Velmi opomíjenou je problematika zániku a (ne)existence regionu, tudíž je v této práci věnována značná pozornost především těmto otázkám. Díky teorii sociálního konstruktivismu mohlo být demonstrováno, že je potřeba rozlišovat existenci regionu jakožto sociálního jevu a „pouhé“ přesvědčení o (ne)existenci regionu. Na základě toho byla formulována typologie regionů podle reflexe jejich (ne)existence, přičemž některá tvrzení bylo potřeba ověřit na empirických datech. Případovou studií z českých zemí a zejména Moravy bylo prokázáno, že se lze v případě těchto regionů setkat s jistou „schizofrenní existencí“, kdy jsou některými lidmi tyto územní jednotky vnímány jako stále existující, zatímco podle jiných již neexistují. Třetí skupinu představují lidé, u nichž lze zaznamenat oba názory. Na empirických datech bylo dále zjištěno, že přesvědčení o neexistenci Moravy a jejích hranic může sytit rezistenci manifestující se v moravském regionalismu. V práci jsou také nastíněny paralely moravanství s regionalismem ve finské obci Nurmo, kde došlo podobně jako v případě českých zemí k silné deinstitucionalizaci ztrátou administrativního statusu, která u mnoha lidí stojí za jejich přesvědčením o neexistenci daných regionů.

Abstract:

The region has been understood as a spatial structure, social construct and dynamic process since 1980s. In spite of this, most researches in new regional geography deal with the emergence of region. The development of region is rarely studied and thus this rigorous thesis deals with this issue. The thesis suggests a link between the theory of institutionalization of regions and the concepts of a formal, functional and perceptual region. Perceptual region is very suitable for studying the reproduction of region, which is part of the institutionalization and deinsti-tutionalization of regions. Regional reproduction is also necessary for the future existence of region. In this thesis particular attention is paid to the issue of the extinction and (non-)existence of region, for this theme is highly neglected. Thanks to social constructionism the need to distinguish between existence of region as a social construct and “mere” belief about (non-)existence of region could have been demonstrated. Based on this distinction a typology of regions according to the reflection of their (non-)existence was proposed. Some claims needed to be verified on empirical data. The case of the Czech Lands and especially Moravia shows that there is a certain “schizophrenic existence”, for some people perceive these regions as still existing, while they no longer exist according others. In the third group of people, both views can be met. On the empirical data, it was also found that the beliefs about the non-existence of Moravia and its borders can saturate the resistance manifested in Moravian regionalism. The thesis also outlines the parallels of Moravian regionalism with the regionalism in the Finnish municipality of Nurmo, where, as in the case of the Czech Lands, there was a strong deinstitutionalization. This deinstitutionalization has happened with the loss of administrative status, which persuades many people to believe in the non-existence of the given regions.
