Jung's archetypes in works of Lucien Freud

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Jungovy archetypy v dílech Luciena Freuda“ se zabývá možnou interpretací Freudova díla pomocí teorie Jungových archetypů. První část práce věnujeme stručnému úvodu do tématu archetypů, jejich konkrétním aspektům a pojmům, jež jsou s nimi spojeny. Zabýváme se také pojmem vizuální metafory a významu. V této kapitole také ukážeme spojitost mezi Freudovou tvorbou a vizuální metaforou. Pokusíme se zde také nastínit teorii o možnosti chápat Freudovy portréty jako vizuální metaforu archetypů. Ve druhé části bakalářské práce se pokusíme prostřednictvím archetypů interpretovat některá z Freudových děl. Neklademe si za cíl vytvořit pevně danou interpretaci, ale ukázat možnou provázanost mezi tvorbou umělce a obsahem kolektivního nevědomí. Z estetického hlediska tato práce může poskytnout komplexnější pohled na Freudovu portrétní tvorbu.

Abstract:

Bachelor diploma thesis „Jung's archetypes in the works of Lucien Freud” deals with the possible interpretations of Freud's work by Jung's theory of archetypes. The first part gives a brief introduction to the topic of archetypes, their specific aspects and concepts that are associated with them. We also deal with the concept of visual metaphors and symbols. We try to outline the theory about possibility to comprehending Freud’s work as visual metaphor of archetypes. The second part of the thesis will try to interpret the archetypes through some of Freud's work. It does not aim to create a fixed interpretation, but to show the possible link between the work of an artist and the content of the collective unconscious. From aesthetic point of view the thesis bring complex view of Freund’s work.
