The position of women in Islamic society, a case study of Afghanistan

Abstract:

Genderová nerovnost a utlačování ženských práv v islámských zemích je velmi diskutované téma již po mnoho let. Zejména Afghánistán je v této oblasti řazen na nejhorší příčky, co se dodržování ženských práv týká. Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl porovnat ženské postavení v průběhu politických proměn této země, a to především pomocí výpovědí samotných žen a dostupné literatury. Práce se dělí na dvě části. První dvě kapitoly se věnují vymezení sociologických pojmů z oblasti genderových studií a následnému výkladu historie islámského náboženství a postavení muslimských žen v této kultuře. Empirická část nejprve vymezuje Afghánistán z geografického a demografického hlediska. Poté se věnuje třem politickým milníkům země, které silně ovlivnily a stále ovlivňují postavení tamějších žen. Poslední kapitola pojednává právě o roli ženy v každé jednotlivé historické epoše státu, především se věnuje možnosti jejich vzdělávání, dostupnosti lékařské peče či pracovním příležitostem.

Abstract:

Gender inequality and the oppression of women's rights in Islamic countries has been a discussed topic for a time. Afghanistan is one of the worst countries in terms of respect for women's rights. This bachelor thesis aims to compare the female position during the political changes of this country, especially by the testimonies of women themselves and available literature. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first two chapters are devoted to the definition of sociological concepts in the field of gender studies and explain the history of the Islamic religion and the position of Muslim women in this culture. The empirical part first defines Afghanistan from a geographical and demographic point of view. Subsequently, it characterizes the three political milestones of the country, which have strongly influenced and are still influencing the position of Afghan women. The last chapter describes the role of women in each historical epoch of the state, especially in the possibilities of education, the availability of medical care or job opportunities.
