The Little Entente and its Demise in 1937 - 1938

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá Malou dohodou, vojensko-politickým spojenectvím mezi Československem, Jugoslávií a Rumunskem, a zejména procesem jeho zániku v letech 1937-1938. Práce je zaměřena na zhoršování mezinárodního postavení Československa, snahu o aktivizaci spojeneckých závazků a reakci Jugoslávie a Rumunska na československé ohrožení. Práce se rovněž snaží odpovědět na otázku, jaké faktory ovlivňovaly postoje vlád malodohodových spojenců, a proč byla Malá dohoda nakonec v praxi neúčinná.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the Little Entente, the military-political alliance between Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Romania, and especially the process of its demise in 1937-1938. This thesis is focused on the deterioration of the international position of Czechoslovakia, the effort to activate the alliance commitments, and the reaction of Yugoslavia and Romania to the threat to Czechoslovakia. The thesis also tries to answer the question of what factors influenced the attitudes of the governments of the Little Entente’s allies, and why the Little Entente was ineffective.
