The influence of Jamaican subcultures on the Czech and Slovak dance community

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vnímáním jamajských subkultur v kontextu českých a slovenských tanečníků. Důraz je kladen hlavně na jednu z nejmladších jamajských subkultur, kterou je dancehall. Cílem mé práce je zjistit, jak se jeví Jamajka a její subkultury stoupencům dancehallu v Česku a na Slovensku a jaké důležitosti jim připisují. Práce je rozdělená do dvou částí - v té prví se snažím téma zasadit do teoretického rámce, který pomůže při pochopení druhé části, a to té výzkumné. Pro tu jsem si zvolila metodu chápajících rozhovorů a skupinového rozhovoru, při které jsem se snažila zaměřit na rozdílnost poznatků, zkušeností a názorů na jamajskou kulturu mezi lektory a studenty tohoto tanečního stylu. Výzkumná část je zakončená interpretací výsledků rozhovorů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the perception of Jamaican subcultures in the context of Czech and Slovak dancers. The focus is mainly on one of the youngest Jamaican subcultures, which is dancehall. The goal of my work is to find out how Jamaica and its subcultures appear to dancehall followers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and what importance they attribute to them. The thesis is divided into two parts - in the first part, I´m trying to place the topic in a theoretical framework that will help in understanding the second part, namely the research part. For this, I chose the method of in-depth interview and group conversation, during which I tried to focus on the difference in knowledge, experience and opinions about Jamaican culture between lecturers and students of this dance style. The research part ends with the interpretation of the results of the interviews.
