Uherské Hradiště Prison - from prison to museum

Abstract:

Cílem práce je představení médií, pomocí kterých je prezentována Věznice v Uherském Hradišti, zjištění zájmu veřejnosti o Věznici a nově vznikající imersivní expozici Za zdí. Sekundárním cílem je diskuse záměru obnovy areálu s poskytnutím příkladů dobré praxe. Objektem výzkumu je Věznice v Uherském Hradišti, která je prací vnímána jako živá historická entita coby nositelka příběhů. V první části práce dochází k prolínání teoretické roviny a praktického výzkumu obrazu Věznice reprezentované dobovými médii. Důležitou součástí práce je i představení samotného objektu, na který je nahlíženo jak historickou, tak stavebně-technickou optikou. Percepce Věznice obyvateli města byla zjišťována dotazníkovým šetřením, jehož smyslem bylo poskládat současný obraz objektu, na který by vhodně navazovala prezentace jeho historie. Touto prezentací je imersivní expozice Za zdí, která formou storytellingu v prostředí rozšířené reality Věznici přibližuje lidem. Budoucí vize využití areálu je postavená před inspirativní uvedení příkladů podobné lokální a zahraniční praxe. Vhodnost použití imersivní expozice a mediální prezentace Věznice je dále podrobena diskusi v řízených semi-strukturovaných rozhovorech. Práce závěrem představuje cestu konverze brownfieldu uprostřed města do podoby paměťové instituce efektivně využívající soudobé muzejní trendy s respektem k historii objektu.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to introduce the media used to present the Uherské Hradiště Prison, to determine the interest of the public in the Prison and the newly emerging immersive exhibition Behind the Walls. The secondary aim is to discuss the intention of the restoration of the premises and to provide examples of good practice. The object of research is the Uherské Hradiště Prison, which is perceived as a living historical entity as a carrier of stories. In the first part of the thesis, the theoretical level and practical research of the image of the Prison represented by contemporary media are intertwined. An essential part of the thesis is the presentation of the building itself, which is viewed through historical and structural-technical approaches. A questionnaire survey determined the perception of the Prison by the inhabitants of the town, the purpose of which was to put together a contemporary image of the building, which a presentation of its history would suitably follow. This presentation is the immersive exhibition Behind the Walls, which brings the Prison closer to people through storytelling in augmented reality. The future vision of the use of the site is set before an inspiring presentation of examples of similar local and international practices. The appropriateness of immersive exhibition and media presentation of the Prison is further discussed in guided semi-structured interviews. The thesis concludes by presenting a way of converting a brownfield in the city centre into a memory institution effectively using contemporary museum trends with respect to the history of the building.
