Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá popisem morové epidemie, která postihla oblast Athén v roce 430 př. n. l. Největší pozornosti se zde dostalo dílu Tita Cara Lucretia. De rerum natura je velmi hodnotným textem, jenž nabízí jak bohatou estetickou, tak i výpovědní hodnotu. Tato práce se však věnuje především závěru šesté knihy. Současně nelze opomenout také historické dílo Thúkydídovo, ve kterém se objevuje první a tedy zásadní pokus o zaznamenání vzniku a průběhu této choroby. Práce se snaží poukázat nejen na utrpení, která se k morové epidemii zcela neodmyslitelně váží, ale znázorňuje také důsledky, které tato choroba zanechala na lidském společenství.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with a description of a plague outbreak which struck the region of Athens during the year 430 BC. The biggest attention was given to the work of Titus Lucrecius Carus. De rerum natura is a highly valuable text of a rich aesthetic and factual value. This thesis is especially focused on the conclusion of the sixth book. At the same time we cannot leave out a historic work of Thucydides in which the first and therefore fundamental attempt to record the origin and development of this disease, appeared for the first time. The thesis tries to point out not only a suffering, which goes hand in hand with plague epidemics but it also demonstrates consequences the disease has left left on human society.
