Design and implement SRE portal within Backstage service catalog

Abstract:

Role SRE je pro firmy v rychle se vyvíjejícím prostředí velice důležitá. SRE musí balancovat mezi požadavky vývojářů, kteří chtějí rychle inovovat a zákazníků, kteří požadují stabilní prostředí. Tato závěrečná práce se snaží vytvořit portál, který zjednoduší SRE práci. V závěrečné práci se nejdříve podíváme na principy SRE. Dále prozkoumáme nástroje jako je například Kubernetes, abychom chápali jaké potřeby SRE má. V praktické části navrhneme SRE portál a porovnáme jednotlivé nástroje. Vybrané nástroje v tomto projektu využijeme. Nakonec vytvoříme SRE portál, který napomáhá SRE s jejich úkoly. V rámci této diplomové práce byl vytvořen SRE portál. Nakonec byl portál nasazen do prostředí Backstage open-source komunity Operate First.

Abstract:

In the world of rapid development, SRE’s role in the company is more important than ever before. SRE must be able to manage developers’ need to innovate deployed applications and customers’ requirements for the high availability of said applications. This thesis aims to create a portal for SRE which will help them with this task. In this thesis, we first look at SRE principles and tools such as Kubernetes to understand what SRE needs and what tools are helpful for the SRE portal. Next, we design the SRE portal and compare various tools which we can use for this project. Last, we build an SRE portal that supports SRE workflow. This thesis built an SRE portal and deployed it to a Backstage instance used by the open-source community Operate First.
