Systematic Screening of Porphyrinoids for Single-Molecule Devices

Abstract:

Empirický vztah známý jako Moorův zákon popisuje pokrok v miniaturizaci elektroniky. Tento trend však nemůže pokračovat do nekonečna kvůli velikostním omezením materiálů. Molekulární elektronika nabízí možnost využití molekul jako stavebních kamenů pro elektrické obvody, a tak posunout miniaturizaci až na hranici možností. V téhle diplomové práci zkoumáme verzatilní skupinu molekul, porfyriny, pomocí metod výpočetní chemie. Celkem jsme prozkoumali 20 struktur a jejich transmisní vlastnosti, abychom zjistili jejich potenciální použití v rámci molekulární elektroniky.

Abstract:

The empirical trend known as Moore’s law describes the progress of miniaturization of electronics. However, this trend cannot continue indefinitely due to the size limitations of materials. Molecular electronics are looking to use molecules as the building blocks within electrical circuits, to push the miniaturization to its absolute limits. In this thesis, we explore a versatile class of molecules, porphyrins, using methods of computational chemistry. We assessed a total of 20 structures and their transmission properties to see the potential uses within molecular electronics.
