Determinants of inflation in the Visegrad Four countries

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá příčinami prudkého nárůstu inflace v zemích Visegradské čtyřky, tj. Česká republika, Maďarsko, Polsko a Slovensko, v posledních letech. Cílem práce je identifikovat hlavní determinanty inflace a zjistit, jaký má jejich změna dopad na míru inflace ve zvolených zemích. Bakalářská práce bude pomocí statistických analýz zkoumat vztahy mezi inflací a vybranými proměnnými. Těmito proměnnými budou index cen průmyslových a zemědělských výrobců, celkové importní ceny, importní ceny potravin, diskontní sazba reálný efektivní kurz domácí měny, ceny benzínu a nominální směnný kurz vůči americkému dolaru. Komparace determinant inflace zemí Visegradské čtyřky přinese identifikace podobností a rozdílů mezi jednotlivými zeměmi. Výstupem bakalářské práce by mělo být poskytnutí náhledu na to, jaké faktory a proměnné ovlivňovaly inflaci v zemích Visegradské čtyřky ve vymezeném období. Práce by tak mohla sloužit jako zpráva informující o zásadních vlivech na inflační růst, nejen pro politické aktéry, nýbrž i pro ostatní ekonomické subjekty.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the causes of the sharp rise in inflation in the Visegrad Four countries, i.e. the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, in recent years. The aim of the thesis is to identify the main determinants of inflation and to find out what impact their change has on the inflation rate in the selected countries. The bachelor thesis will use statistical analyses to examine the relationships between inflation and the selected variables. These variables will be the industrial and agricultural producer price index, total import prices, food import prices, the discount rate of the real effective exchange rate of the domestic currency, gasoline prices and the nominal exchange rate against the US dollar. The comparison of the determinants of inflation of the Visegrad Four countries will yield the identification of similarities and differences between the countries. The output of the Bachelor's thesis should be to provide insight into what factors and variables influenced inflation in the Visegrad Four countries over the defined period. The thesis could thus serve as a report informing about the major influences on inflationary growth, not only for political actors but also for other economic actors.
