The CoUniverse middleware requires topological knowledge of the peer-to-peer network of the communicating clients. The primary knowledge of the network topology concerns the application layer, however supplementary knowledge can be supplied by the clients about the data link or network layer. Middleware CoUniverse potrebuje poznať sieťovú topológiu medzi jednotlivými svojimi klientmi prepojenými v peer-to-peer sieti. Primárna je znalosť topológie na aplikačnej úrovni, ktorá môže byť klientmi rozšírená o linkovú či sieťovú úroveň. Tí však disponujú len svojou lokálnou vedomosťou.
