Truly a Lost Generation? Life's meaning in "The Sun Also Rises" and "The Great Gatsby"

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Lost Generation with the focus on the question if the Lost Generation was truly lost or something or someone could save them. The aim of this work is to analyse the novels The Sun Also Rises by E. Hemingway and The Great Gatsby written by F. S. Fitzgerald with the help of critic literature and to attempt to find a possible answer to the main question of the thesis. The thesis is focused on the themes of love, memory and the past and on being lost. Based on the analyses of the novels the authors suggests that love might be the key to salvation of the Lost Generation.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pracuje s otázkou, jestli ztracená generace byla skutečně ztracena nebo někdo nebo něco mohlo tuto generaci zachránit. Cílem teto práce je analýza dvou knih I Slunce Vychází od E. Hemingwaye a Velký Gatsby napsaná F. S. Fitzgeraldem, s použitím kritické literatury k dosažení odpovědi na hlavní otázku této práce. Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na témata láska, vzpomínky a minulost. Na základě zmíněných knih bylo prokázáno, že láska byla klíčem k záchraně ztracené generace.
