Conceptual Model for Reliability Management in Smart Grids

Abstract:

The traditional power grids are now being evolved to Smart Grids which are smaller and much more efficient than traditional power grids. This evolution has grasped enormous popularity in recent times. The Smart Grids are more resilient than traditional power grids with a complex network of numerous sophisticated electrical components. This has completely changed the way of power generation and distribution. The proposed thesis focuses on most common threats to the reliability and vulnerabilities of the smart grids that causes faults, failures and cyber security issues. These issues are compromised by attacker or hacker to get the access to system. This work presents a conceptual model on considering the possible reliability issues and proposing state-of-the-art countermeasures for a reliable Smart Grid design.
