Genera Fomes and Ganoderma (Basidiomycota) in Central and Southern Europe

Abstract:

Wood fungi have great importance of closing nutrient cycle in nature and they have wide use in medicinal sphere but at the same time they can cause economic damages of wood and they can reflect danger of falling trees in urban areas. The main objects of this thesis were ecological trends of polypores, especially Ganoderma genus and Fomes fomentarius species with focus on ecological and genetic diversity and host preferences. The synanthropic processes were evaluated within genus Ganoderma. Review papers were based on vast literature excerption. Field data were collected during 2014-2019 in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, northern Hungary, Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy with help of other researchers. We also analysed data in museum's collections across Czech Republic. All collected basidiocarps were morphologically evaluated and determined according to identification key. We also carried out genetic analysis of selected markers (ITS, 25S LSU, tef-1?) in specific specimens together with ITS-PCR-RFLP and MALDI-TOF MS methods. Results of review study include evaluation of existence of different genetic lineages of Fomes fomentarius. Other results bring us knowledge about genetic (non)-homogeneity of Ganoderma genus, where we found out that there are no intra-species differences in G. applanatum and G. pfeifferi and very low in G. adspersum, G. lucidum and G. carnosum but on the other hand we observed significant genetic differences in G. resinaceum clade. Statistical analyses of herbarium data showed different habitat preferences. For example G. adspersum is highly synantropic species with great propensity to parazitism and additional results prove that there are possibilities to discover new host tree associations for Ganoderma genus in the upcoming years.

Abstract:

Dřevní houby mají velký význam v koloběhu látek v přírodě a mají také široké využití v oblasti medicíny, zároveň však způsobují ekonomické poškození dřeva a mohou také odrážet nebezpečí pádu stromů v urbanizovaných oblastech. Hlavním předmětem této práce byly ekologické trendy chorošů, obzvláště rodu Ganoderma a druhu Fomes fomentarius se zaměřením na ekologickou a genetickou diverzitu a hostitelskou preferenci. Synantropní procesy v rámci rodu Ganoderma byly zhodnoceny. Rešeršní publikace byly založeny na rozsáhle excerpci literatury. Terénní data byla nasbírána v letech 2014 - 2019 na území České republiky, Slovenska, severního Maďarska, Portugalska, Španělska, Řecka a Itálie s pomocí dalších výzkumníků. V České republice byla také analyzována muzejní data. Všechny nasbírané plodnice byly morfologicky zhodnoceny a určeny pomocí determinačního klíče. Také jsme provedli genetickou analýzu s využitím vybraných markerů (ITS, 25S LSU, tef-1?) společně s ITS-PCR-RFLP a MALDI-TOF MS metodami. Výsledky rešeršní práce zahrnují zhodnocení existence různých genetických linií druhu Fomes fomentarius. Další výsledky nám přinášejí poznatky o genetické (ne)homogenitě rodu Ganoderma, kde jsme zjistili, že u G. applanatum a u G. pfeifferi není žádná vnitrodruhová variabilita a velmi nízká u G. adspersum, G. lucidum a G. carnosum, ale na druhou stranu signifikantní genetické rozdíly byly pozorovány u G. resinaceum. Statistické analýzy herbářových položek ukázaly rozdílné habitatové preference lesklokorek. Například G. adspersum je vysoce synantropní druh s velkým sklonem k parazitizmu. Další výsledky dokazují, že v nadcházejících letech je stále možné objevit nově asociované hostitelské dřeviny pro rod Ganoderma.
