The level of fear and anxiety from dental treatment in children

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřila na experimentální ověření vlivu audiovizuální projekce, jako jedné z možných metod kognitivně-behaviorální terapie, na dentální úzkost u dětí. Data byla získána na vzorku pacientů mladšího školního věku (N=58). Úzkost před a po stomatologickém ošetření byla měřena pomocí Venhamova obrázkového testu. Analýzou dat jsme dospěli k závěru, že děti, kterým byla během stomatologického ošetření promítána animovaná pohádka mají signifikantně vyšší skór v testu úzkosti než kontrolní skupina. Tyto výsledky naznačují, že odvrácení pozornosti pomocí audiovizuální projekce je účinnou metodou ke zmírnění úzkosti spojené se zubním ošetřením. Hypotéza, která tvrdí, že se dívky a chlapci liší v průměrném skóru úzkosti byla potvrzena. Naopak hypotéza, která tvrdí, že mezi věkem a úzkostí je signifikantní vztah, nebyla potvrzena.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focused on experimental verification of the impact of audiovisual projection, as one of the possible methods of cognitive behavioral therapy, on dental anxiety in children. The research data were obtained by the testing of younger school-aged patients (N = 58). Dental anxiety before and after dental treatment was measured by Venham's image test. The test data analysis showed that children who were screened by the animated fairytale during the dental treatment had a significantly higher score in the anxiety test than the control group. These results suggest that distraction by audiovisual projection is an effective method of alleviating anxiety associated with the dental treatment. The hypothesis, which claims that girls and boys differ in the mean score of dental anxiety, was confirmed. The hypothesis, which claims that age and anxiety is in a significant relationship, was not confirmed.
