Christology and the Spread of Sahaja Yoga

Abstract:

Tato práce, jejímž původním záměrem bylo odhalení významu postavy Ježíše Krista na konverzi ke hnutí Sahadža jóga, ve své finální fázi odhalila prvky, které pro konverzi mají daleko zásadnější význam. Jsou jimi: role těla a tělesných vjemů, které vznikají během meditací. Dále role kolektivity, která poskytuje pro tyto vjemy interpretační rámec a nakonec posledním významným činitelem při finální fázi konverze je autorita zakladatelky Šrí Mátadží. Tyto aspekty byly odhaleny na základě závěrů výzkumu Judith Coneyové, která konverzi ke hnutí Sahadža jóga chápala především jako radikální sekundární socializaci. Vycházela přitom z vlivné teorie sociální konstrukce reality Bergmana & Luckmanna. Její práce následně posloužila jako základ k terénnímu výzkumu mezi členy brněnské kolektivity Sahadža jógy. Byl využit kvalitativní přístup a sběr dat proběhl formou semi-strukturovaných rozhovorů. Závěry výzkumu potvrdily závěry, kterých dosáhla při své práci Coneyová.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the conversion to a new religious movement: Sahaja Yoga. It tries to reveal the most important aspects of a conversion to Sahaja Yoga. The first intention of the paper is to reveal how a specific interpretation of Jesus Christ, who is embedded in doctrine of Sahaja Yoga, helps newcomers to identify themselves with this new religious movement. On the contrary, it was found out, during a field research, that his importance is irrelevant. The field research was done as a qualitative inquiry and a method of semi-structured interviews was used for a data gathering. A research worker gathered a group of five Sahaja Yoga members from Brno and asked a series of questions about their experiences from their beginnings at Sahaja Yoga. The results affirmed the conclusions of Judith Coney and her work: Sahaja Yoga: Socializing Processes in a South Asian New Religious Movement. The most significant aspects during a process of secondary socialization to this religious movement are first of all, the body and feelings of vibrations then, the collectivity of Sahaja Yoga eventually, the charismatic authority of Shri Mataji, the founder of Sahaja Yoga.
