Tablet, the last stage yet in remediation of teaching aids

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Tablet, zatím poslední stadium v remediaci školních pomůcek představuje tablet jako novodobou digitální pomůcku ve vzdělávání, která se od roku 2011 rozšiřuje i do českých škol. Popisuje tablet, jeho historii, hardware i software. Mapuje proces remediace z hlediska soutěže školních pomůcek a představuje specifika užívání tabletu jako učební pomůcky. Práce si klade otázky: Co je tablet? Z jakých důvodů se stal učební pomůckou? Jakým způsobem se tablet používá na českých základních školách? Ulehčuje žákům vzdělávání? Co je to proces remediace? Jak se stal tablet posledním stádiem v remediaci školních pomůcek? Jaké jsou hlavní rozdíly mezi analogovými a digitálními médii/učebními pomůckami? Základními zdroji pro zodpovězení otázek jsou Remediation: understanding new media od J. D. Bolter, R. Grusin, The Language of New Media (2002) Lva Manoviche, New Media: A Critical Introduction (2003) Martina Listera a An introduction to digital media (1997) Tonyho Feldmana. osobní a hloubkový rozhovor s pedagožkou Mgr. Terezou Bořeckou na téma Způsob užívání tabletů na základní škole Čejkovická v Brně a zdroje na internetu (články v elektronických časopisech, na učitelských serverech a výzkumných institutech). Cílem práce je metodou studia odborných textů a analýzy sekundárních zdrojů zmapovat proces remediace a ilustrovat na příkladech v praxi, charakterizovat způsob užívání tabletu, jako novodobé učební pomůcky s důrazem na rozdíly mezi digitálními a analogovými pomůckami.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Tablet, the last stage yet in remediation of teaching aids introduces tablet as a contemporary digital teaching aid that has been finding its way into the Czech schools since 2011. It describes tablet and its history, hardware and software. It maps the process of remediation from the school teaching aids contest's point of view and introduces specifications of using tablet as a teaching aid. This thesis asks the following questions: What is tablet? Why did it become a teaching aid? How is tablet being used in Czech elementary schools? Does it make education easier for students? What is the remediation process? How did tablet become the last stage of remediation of teaching aids? What are the main differences between analogue and digital media/teaching aids? Fundamental sources for answering these questions are Remediation: understanding new media by J. D. Bolter, R. Grusin, The language of New Media (2002) by Lev Manovich, New Media: A Critical Introduction (2003) by Martin Lister and An introduction to digital media (1997) by Tony Feldman, personal and in-depth interview with educator Mgr. Tereza Bořecká focusing on the topic The way tablets are used at elementary school Čejkovická in Brno, and internet articles (articles in internet magazines, teacher dedicated web sites and research institutes). The thesis uses methods of study of specialized texts and secondary sources analysis with the aim to map out the remediation process and practical examples are used to illustrate this process. It characterizes different ways of using tablet as a contemporary teaching aid with emphasis on differences between analogue and digital aids.
