The relationship between „leadership“ and selected personality traits in manager‘s profession

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumáním vzájemných vztahů mezi leadershipem zkoumaným metodou LJI – Leadership Judgement Indicator (Lock, Wheeler, 2012) a osobnostními charakteristikami Big Five, konkrétně byl použit dotazník NEO-PI-R (Hřebíčková, 2004). Cílem bylo zjistit, zda existuje souvislost mezi úrovní jednotlivých faktorů Big Five (tedy neuroticismem, extraverzí, otevřeností vůči zkušenosti, přívětivostí a svědomitostí) a adekvátností volby stylu vedení (čili volby optimální varianty stylu vedení v konkrétní situaci). Dále se práce zaměřuje na to, zda úroveň neuroticismu, extraverze, otevřenosti vůči zkušenosti, přívětivosti a svědomitosti má významný vliv na preferenci jednotlivých stylů vedení, konkrétně se jedná o preferenci direktivního, konzultativního, konsenzuálního a delegativního stylu. Výzkumný soubor tvoří celkem 52 respondentů pracujících na manažerské pozici, a jejichž součástí pracovní náplně je také leadership, vedení podřízených, udávání směru a rozvoj strategií. Věk respondentů je 26 – 47 let. Získaná data byla zpracována pomocí statistického programu SPSS a výsledky jsou uvedeny v závěrečné diskuzi této práce.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the relations among leadership and Big Five personality traits. For this purpose following methods were used in the study: LJI – Leadership Judgement Indicator (Lock, Wheeler, 2012) to indicate leadership and NEO-PI-R (Hřebíčková, 2004) to indicate selected personality traits. The aim of this study was to find out whether there is a significant correlation between the level of the individual Big Five factors (neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness) and the leadership judgment ability (the choice of the optimal leadership style in a particular situation). The focus of this study was also to find a correlation among Big Five factors and preferred leadership styles (the preference of the directive, the consultative, the consensual and the delegative style). The research sample consists of 52 respondents at the age from 26 to 47 working as managers and their key responsibility is also leadership. The obtained data were processed using SPSS statistical programme and the results are presented in the discussion of this thesis.
