The Use of the Reminiscence Therapy while Working with Clients with Dementia

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá hodnocením reminiscenční terapie jako jedné z možných technik aktivizace klientů s demencí. Reminiscenční terapie je hodnocena z hlediska pomáhajících pracovníků, kteří pracují s klienty v přímé péči v rámci denních stacionářů nebo domovů se zvláštním režimem. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny klíčové pojmy: pomáhající pracovník, vybrané zařízení, přínos, využití, reminiscenční terapie, aktivizace, klienti s demencí. Při sběru dat byla využita kvalitativní technika, konkrétně záměrný kriteriální výběr. Data byla získána pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s respondenty ze dvou organizací. Cílem empirické části je zodpovězení hlavní výzkumné otázky: „Jak a v čem hodnotí pomáhající pracovníci ve vybraném zařízení přínos využití reminiscenční terapie při aktivizaci klientů s demencí?“ Výzkumem bylo zjištěno, že respondenti hodnotí reminiscenční terapii velmi pozitivně a jako největší problém vnímají nedostatek financí a času, aby se mohli této terapii při práci s klienty s demencí více věnovat.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the evaluation of reminiscence therapy as one of the possible techniques of activation of clients with dementia. Reminiscence therapy is evaluated in terms of helping professionals who work with clients in direct care within day care or special homes. The key concepts are defined in the theoretical part: helping professionals, selected organization, benefits, use, reminiscence therapy, activation, clients with dementia. Data were obtained by using qualitative techniques, specifically intentional selection criterion. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with repondents out of the two organizations. The aim of the empirical part is to answer the main research question: „How and in what ways judge the helping professionals in the selected organization the benefits and use of reminiscence therapy in the activation of clients with dementia?“ The research found out that respondents evaluated very positively reminiscence therapy and the biggest problem they perceive the lack of finance and time to be able to do this therapy more often when working with clients with dementia.
