The Theme of Manipulation in German Literature Shown on the Work "The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, or: How Violence Develops and Where It Can Lead" by Heinrich Böll

Abstract:

The master thesis focused on the topic of manipulation, expressed on the work The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, or: How Violence Develops a Where It Can Lead by German writer Heinrich Böll. The aim of the thesis is to explain the concept of manipulation and to show manipulative elements in the above mentioned work. Manipulation has become a common part of our lives, so often used to promote opinions, interests and arguments. Particular attention in the theoretical part is devoted to manipulating in mass media; the author of the work criticizes in his work the work on the tabloid press and the pursuit of sensations, which should attract the attention of the readers. Mass media often influence public opinion and affects society and the individual. The work of Heinrich Böll shows how tabloid prints have negatively influenced the life of a particular person. The modest and dear girl is unexpectedly exposed to a ruthless media hunt, which includes the publication of half-truths and lies. The heroine is helpless against all that dirt and decides to act on his own.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na téma manipulace, vyjádřené na příkladu díla Ztracená čest Kateřiny Blumové aneb Jak vzniká násilí a kam může vést od německého spisovatele Heinricha Bölla. Cílem práce je vysvětlit pojem manipulace a ukázat manipulativní prvky právě ve zmíněném díle. Manipulace se stala běžnou součástí našeho života, je často používána k prosazení stanovisek, zájmů a argumentů. Zvláštní pozornost v teoretické části práce je věnována manipulaci v masových médiích, autor díla kritizuje ve svém díle práci bulvárního tisku a honbu za senzacemi, které mají přilákat pozornost čtenářů. Masová média často ovlivňují veřejné mínění a působí tím na společnost i jednotlivce. V díle Heinricha Bölla je ukázáno, jak bulvární tisk negativně ovlivnil život konkrétního člověka. Skromná a milá dívka je nečekaně vystavena nelítostnému mediálnímu honu, jehož součástí je zveřejňování polopravd a lží. Hrdinka je proti vší té špíně bezmocná a rozhodne se jednat na vlastní pěst.
