Does blockchain lead to the removal of intermediaries in sharing economy?

Abstract:

Blockchain způsobil revoluci ve způsobu, jakým podniky fungují po celém světě. Charakteristiky Blockchainu jako decentralizace, soukromí, transparentnost a začlenění mají potenciál narušit současné online obchodní modely. Tato práce se zaměřuje na sdílenou ekonomiku a na to, jak Blockchain může pomoci při řešení nedostatků a výzev existujících prominentních obchodních modelů jako jsou Airbnb a Uber. Práce zkoumá dopad Blockchainu na měnící se role a funkce zprostředkovatelů sdílené ekonomiky z hlediska infrastruktury, důvěry a matchmakingu. Zjištění jsou dosažena prostřednictvím devíti vybraných blockchainových projektů souvisejících se sdílenou ekonomikou. Všechny projekty jsou posouzeny na základě vícenásobné případové studie vycházející z veřejně dostupných zdrojů. Tato studie vede k analýze zakončené odpovědí na to, které role a funkce zprostředkovatelů jsou ovlivněny a jak, a zdali to vede k disintermediaci.

Abstract:

Blockchain has revolutionised the way businesses run around the world. Blockchain's by-design features such as decentralization, privacy, transparency, and inclusion have the potential to disrupt current online business models. This thesis focuses on the sharing economy and how Blockchain can help address the shortcomings and challenges of existing prominent business models such as Airbnb or Uber. The work examines the impact Blockchain has on the changing roles and functions of sharing economy intermediaries in terms of infrastructure, trust, and matchmaking. The findings are achieved through the nine selected Blockchain projects related to the sharing economy. All projects are assessed with multiple case-study research from publicly available sources. This leads to an analysis, which concludes with an answer to what roles and functions of intermediaries are impacted and how, and whether this leads to disintermediation.
