Occupational therapy intervention in a child with Down syndrome using music therapy

Abstract:

ÚVOD: Úvodní část bakalářské práce prezentuje přehled témat týkajících se Downova syndromu, ergoterapie a muzikoterapie. CÍL PRÁCE: Cílem bakalářské práce je seznámení se s problematikou ergoterapie u Downova syndromu s využitím muzikoterapie a rozvojem psychomotorických dovedností a komunikace. METODIKA: V hlavní části bakalářské práce jsme se zaměřili na klientku s Downovým syndromem, která má středně mentální retardaci. Rozhodli jsme se spojit ergoterapeutické intervence s prvky muzikoterapie. Pro zhodnocení aktuálního stavu klientky jsme využili formu nestrukturovaného rozhovoru, přímého pozorování a také jsme využili standardizovaných testů (FIM, MABC-2). Na základě výsledků jsme sestavili krátkodobý a dlouhodobý ergoterapeutický plán. VÝSLEDKY: Provedení analýzy vstupních a výstupních výsledků ergoterapeutických intervencí a vytvoření dlouhodobého ergoterapeutického plánu na základě získaných poznatků z krátkodobého ergoterapeutického plánu. Došlo ke zlepšení vdaných modalitách: psychomotorické dovednosti, rovnováha, koordinace a soběstačnost ZÁVĚR: Ergoterapie a muzikoterapie mají významný potenciál v podpoře jedinců s Downovým syndromem, zejména pokud jde o rozvoj jejich psychomotorických dovedností a komunikace. Práce ukazuje, že kombinace těchto oborů může přinést pozitivní výsledky a přispět k celkovému rozvoji jedinců s touto genetickou poruchou.

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: The introductory part of the bachelor thesis presents an overview of topics related to Down syndrome, occupational therapy and music therapy. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the bachelor thesis is to provide an introduction to the topic of occupational therapy in Down syndrome using music therapy and the development of psychomotor skills and communication. OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK: The aim of the bachelor thesis is to provide an introduction to the topic of occupational therapy in Down syndrome using music therapy and the development of psychomotor skills and communication. METHODOLOGY: In the main part of the bachelor thesis we focused on a client with Down syndrome who has moderate mental retardation. We decided to combine occupational therapy interventions with elements of music therapy. We used a form of unstructured interview, direct observation and also used standardized tests (FIM, MABC- 2) to assess the client's current condition. Based on the results, we developed a short-term and long-term occupational therapy plan. RESULTS: To analyze the input and output outcomes of the occupational therapy interventions and to develop a long-term occupational therapy plan based on the findings from the short-term occupational therapy plan. Improvement in the following modalities: psychomotor skills, balance, coordination and self-sufficiency. CONCLUSION: Occupational therapy and music therapy have significant potential in supporting individuals with Down syndrome, particularly in terms of developing their psychomotor skills and communication. This work shows that the combination of these therapeutic methods can bring positive results and contribute to the overall development of individuals with this genetic disorder.
