The Internal Secret Service in the Late Roman Empire
Abstract:
Diplomová práce se věnuje úředníkům agentes in rebus, kteří sloužili v pozdní antice jako tajná policie vládnoucím císařům. Primárním cílem práce je zmapovat činnosti těchto úředníků, zejména curiosi, kteří budou zkoumáni na základě pramenů úřední provenience a dobových narativních pramenů. Pokusím se také vysledovat jejich roli jako činitelů vnitřní zpravodajské služby, případně tajné policie.
Abstract:
This master thesis examines officials agentes in rebus, who served in the late antiquity as the secret police of the ruling emperors. The primary objective is to map out the activities of these officials, especially curiosi, who will be explored on the basis of sources of official provenance and period narrative sources.
