Corbicula fluminea and its expansion in the Holarctic freshwater ecosystems

Abstract:

Korbikula asijská (Corbicula fluminea, Müller, 1774) je v současnosti jeden z nejvíce invazivních živočišných druhů. Do současné doby se rozšířila do mnoha sladkovodních biotopů v téměř celé holarktické biogeografické oblasti. Pozoruhodné jsou zejména její adaptivní a expanzní schopnosti, zvláště unikátní schopnost rozmnožování ? androgeneze. Díky několika různým formám reprodukce a formám přizpůsobivosti se u tohoto druhu vyvinula široká škála morfologických typů, lišících se zejména v různých tvarech a barvách schránek, ale také ve výskytu v různých sladkovodních ekosystémech. Cílem práce je sumarizovat stav znalostí o biologii a geografickém rozšíření Corbicula fluminea v oblasti Holarktis.

Abstract:

These days, Asian clam (Corbicula fluminea, Müller, 1774) is one of the most invasive animal species. Until now, it spread to many freshwater habitats in nearly all Holarctic biogeographical areas. The remarkable features of this species are especially its adaptive and expansive abilities, particularly a unique form of reproduction ? androgenesis. Thanks to the several different types of reproduction and adaptation, this species developed a wide range of morphotypes, which vary mainly in different shapes and colours of its shells. But in occurrence in many various freshwater systems, too. The aim of this work is to summarize a current state of known biology and geographical distribution of Corbicula fluminea in Holarctic area.
