Species composition and ecology of the True Flies (Diptera) in the Western Carpathian spring fens in consideration of the taxonomy of selected higher taxa of Moth Flies (family Psychodidae).

Abstract:

Prameništní slatiniště Západních Karpat se vyznačují vysokou druhovou bohatostí společenstev krytenek, rozsivek, rostlin, měkkýšů a vodního hmyzu, která jsou v různé míře ovlivňována minerálně trofickým gradientem. Společenstvo dvoukřídlých je na prameništích významně zastoupeno, jak svou druhovou bohatostí (např. čeledě Psychodidae a Limoniidae), tak i abundancí (např. čeledě Chironomidae a Ceratopogonidae). Hlavními cíli této práce bylo popsat taxocenózu dvoukřídlých na prameništních slatiništích, statisticky ověřit míru ovlivnění společenstva minerálně trofickým gradientem a definovat habitatové preference larev. V neposlední řadě bylo cílem studovat dospělce čeledi Psychodidae se zřetelem na vybrané taxonomické problémy této čeledi. Zejména se to týkalo taxonomie podčeledi Psychodinae a Trichomyinae na úrovni tribů, subtribů, rodů a podrodů a stanovení klíčových diferenciálních diagnóz u nově objevených druhů. Bylo vybráno 17 lokalit, které reprezentovaly jednotlivé typy pramenišť od minerálně bohatých pěnovcových pramenišť až po minerálně chudá slatiniště, kde byly studovány dva mesohabitaty, průtočná část a část se stojatou vodou. Na těchto lokalitách byly odebrány kvantitativní vzorky na jaře, v létě a na podzim roku 2006 a 2007. Současně bylo exponováno 11 Malaiseho pastí na 9 lokalitách. Celkem bylo nalezeno 9 179 larev, 156 taxonů a více než 1 500 dospělců zařazených ve 26 čeledích dvoukřídlých. Bylo prokázáno, že složení společenstva dvoukřídlých je ovlivněno gradientem minerální bohatosti. Společenstvo průtočného mesohabitatu bylo ovlivněno minerální bohatostí silněji než společenstvo mesohabitatu se stojatou vodou. V mesohabitatu se stojatou vodou, kde bylo společenstvo signifikantně ovlivněno také koncentrací železa, což souvisí se stabilitou habitatu pro hmyzí společenstvo pramenišť, bylo složení taxonů komplexnější. Změny v celkové abundanci a počtu taxonů podél gradientu nebyla prokázána. U několika taxonů byla prokázána odpověď na kyselé, střední a bazické podmínky gradientu. Analýza distribuce larev různých tělních typů podél gradientu minerální bohatosti potvrdila vliv typu substrátu asociovaného s vyšší minerální bohatostí na výskyt madikolních a lotických druhů. Tyto druhy se vyvíjely především na pěnovcových prameništích. Bylo popsáno pět nových druhů pro vědu: Philosepedon dumosum Omelková et Ježek, 2012; Philosepedon perdecorum Omelková et Ježek, 2012; Pneumia kabelaki Omelková et Ježek, 2012; Trichomyia hardeggensis Omelková et Ježek, 2012; a byla provedena redeskripce druhu Pneumia isabellae (Wagner, 2005) nového pro území Slovinska. Z Maroka byl popsán nový druh Pneumia toubkalensis Omelková et Ježek, 2012. Společně s popisem druhů byly stanoveny jejich diferenciální diagnózy a všechny důležité morfologické znaky byly vyobrazeny. Počet druhů koutulovitých v České republice se tak na základě podrobného faunistického výzkumu oblasti zvýšil na 173 druhů.

Abstract:

Spring fens of the Western Carpathians are characteristic of high species richness and diversity of vegetation, algae, testacean, mollusc, and insect assemblages, which are influenced in different extent by the gradient of water chemistry, so-called poor-rich gradient. Aquatic Diptera assemblages inhabiting spring fens are unique not only by high species richness (e.g. families Psychodidae and Limoniidae) but also abundance (e.g. families Chironomidae and Ceratopogonidae). The main aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of the poor-rich gradient on Dipteran assemblages of spring fens and to describe habitat preferences of larvae. Taxonomical part of the study was focused on taxonomy of the family Psychodidae, with regard to diagnostic characteristics of the subfamilies Trichomyinae and Psychodinae on the tribus, subtribus, genus and subgenus levels, descriptions of new species and their differential diagnoses. Altogether 17 spring fens which included sites of different mineral richness of groundwater were studied in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Two contrasting mesohabitats (i.e. the most flowing part and a part with standing water) were studied separately. Quantitative samples were taken in spring, summer and autumn in 2006 and 2007. Adults of Diptera were sampled using 11 Malaise traps exposed at 9 sites in 2006 and 2007. Two contrasting mesohabitats (i.e. the most flowing part and a part with standing water) were analysed separately, also in respect to the responses of individual body types to the poor-rich gradient. Altogether 9 179 individuals of larvae belonging to 156 taxa and, more than 1 500 individuals of adults belonging in 26 families were found. The species composition of assemblages significantly responded to the poor-rich gradient at both mesohabitats. Changes in total abundance and taxon number along the gradient were not significant. Several taxa showed significant preferences for acid, moderate or calcareous conditions. An analysis of the larvae body types revealed an effect of substratum type (associated with the mineral richness), indicated mainly by the occurrence of madicolous and lotic species at calcareous sites. In the standing water mesohabitats, the faunal patterns were more complex and responded significantly to the iron ion concentration, which suggested the role of habitat stability for the spring insect assemblages. The five new species of Psychodidae were described: Philosepedon dumosum Omelková et Ježek, 2012; Philosepedon perdecorum Omelková et Ježek, 2012; Pneumia kabelaki Omelková et Ježek, 2012 and Trichomyia hardeggensis Omelková et Ježek, 2012. Pneumia toubkalensis Omelková et Ježek, 2012 was described as new species for science from Morocco. Pneumia isabellae (Wagner, 2005), a new species for Slovenia, was redescribed. Differential diagnoses were included and all important male diagnostic characters were illustrated. The number of currently known moth fly species in the Czech Republic has increased to 173, due to faunistic researchs in the study area.
