Analysis of Students' Problem Solving Behaviour

Abstract:

The thesis is devoted to analysis of problem solving behaviour in educational games from Problem Solving Tutor system. The analyses were carried out on two specific educational games: Robotanist and Binary crossword. The analyses were aimed at verifying the possibility of using available data to predict users' skills and their progress in the system (number of solved instances, probability of giving up, ...) as well as using them for automatic hint generation. The thesis contains description of the analyses, obtained results and comments about possible utilization of the data. The thesis also contains overview of the relevant research.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa venuje analýze záznamov o jednotlivých krokoch riešenia výučbových úloh zo systému Problem Solving Tutor. V práci boli primárne analyzované úlohy Robotanik a Binárna krížovka. Analýzy sú zamerané na možnosť využitia dostupných záznamov pre zlepšenie predpovede schopnosti užívateľov, ich postupu v systéme (počet vyriešených úloh, pravdepodobnosť, že užívateľ sa pri riešení úlohy vzdá, atď.), či pre automatické generovanie nápovedy. Práca obsahuje popis jednotlivých analýz, dosiahnuté výsledky a komentáre k možnosti využitia analyzovaných dát. V úvode práce sa tiež nachádza prehľad relevantného súvisiaceho výskumu.
