Maps like artistic form and maps like tools and mechanism of power, control and surveillance

Abstract:

V této práci zkoumám umělecký kontext map s jejich kontextem moci. Tato práce ověřuje, zdali umělecký kontext map nabízí nová témata a strategie, nebo zdali je jsou i tyto umělecké mapy součástí tradičního mechanismu moci, kontroly a dozoru. Hlavní otázkou je, jestli a jak mapy fungují v uměleckých projektech a jak jsou tyto mapy schopné odhalit neviditelné vlastnosti tohoto média, které běžně existuje v kartografickém a vojenském kontextu. Dle Christiana Jakoba a J.B.Harleyho vidím mapy jako univerzální jazyk, který je schopen fungovat v mnoha odlišných kontextech. Když změníme kontext, změníme i dopad těchto map na naši reflexi světa. Současné mapy a kartografické nástroje mohou dle mého názoru existovat stejně dobře jako formy protestu, nebo umění, jako zbraně moci V této práci otvírám polemiku související s otázkou, co musíme dělat pro demokratický a umělecký rozvoj map, který je tolik důležitý pro zdravého mínění o světě kolem nás

Abstract:

In this work I compare artistic kontext of maps with their kontext of power. I interested in, if the maps in kontext of art offer new thematic issues and new working strategies, or if these artistsic maps are the part of traditional mechanism of power, control and surveillance. The main question is, if and how the map works in artistic projects and if and how the artistic maps are able to detect the invisible properties of maps, which exist in cartograpfhic and millitary kontext. According Christian Jacob and J.B.Harley I see the recent map like a form of universal and specific-analytical language. I suppose that the same map like universal language can work in many different kontexts. When we change the kontext of map, then we also change the impact of this map on our reflection of world. The same recent map and cartographic tools can exist like a form of protest, artistic form or like a military weapon . In this work I’d like to open polemic, what we have to do for development of democratic and artistic maps. It is really important for making of sensitively opinion about the world around us.
