Abstract:

The main purpose of the thesis is to create a browser extension that increases user awareness regarding data protection, focusing on GDPR compliance and the role of cookies in data collection. The extension aims to notify users when their data is being collected, even if they have declined cookies, enabling them to make informed decisions about their data privacy. The research addresses GDPR regulations, ethical considerations of user consent, and data privacy practices, and develops a browser extension that tracks cookies on websites, analyzes their behavior, and alerts users about data collection. Using browser developer tools, the extension monitors cookie activity to ensure transparency and assess GDPR compliance. The core functionality of the extension is designed to notify users about cookie usage, providing clear information and helping them manage their consent preferences more effectively. The extension empowers users to take control of their privacy and understand how their data is collected and used online. The ultimate goal is to enhance transparency in cookie consent management and support users in protecting their data privacy, fostering a more informed and secure digital experience.
